I DON’T EVEN KNOW IF WE ARE IN A STORM OR I’M JUST FLAPPING IN THE WATER

I explore the visual processes in our consciousness through the motif of water. The perceiver appearing in the video doesn’t know where the source of the trouble lies. This indecision is expressed in the title and thematised in the video.

Images come and go, but some themes never really leave us, they keep popping up in our minds. I use the repetitive movement of the water as an analogy of recurring difficult thoughts that tend to overwhelm but also teach me to adapt to the movement of the waves.

For this video I use a picture of the sea I found in Sofia. In my video I personally take the role of the perceiver, hiding in a jar to escape the perception. I also evoke Peter Dunoff's crowd-moving wave motion sequences.

In the video, Zoltán Danyi's poem "The Place of Impacts" is performed in Hungarian by Edit Farkasinszky and in Bulgarian by Gabriella Hadzsikosztova , and a Bulgarian lady from Sofia. The music is composed by Kurszán Koltay.

The work was supported by Liszt Institute - Hungarian Cultural Centre in Sofia. The work was created as part of their residency programme and it was first performed in the Institute building and then at WATER - contemporary art festival in Burgas.
